Mobile Speech Therapy

Communication touches everything. It’s how a toddler asks for help, how a teenager finds their place, how an adult holds onto independence, and how an older person stays connected to the people they love. When it gets hard, the whole family feels it. With JC Care, it is possible to see expert speech therapy at your door. Our mobile speech therapists deliver the same qualified assessment and treatment you’d expect from a clinic, in the place people communicate most naturally: at home. So there’s no travel, no waiting room, no unfamiliar setting to unsettle a nervous child or an anxious adult.

Speech Therapy Where It Feels Natural

There is a quiet reason in-home speech therapy can be so effective, and it is not just convenience. People communicate most naturally in their own environment.

A child is relaxed and themself at their own kitchen table, surrounded by their own toys and family, so your mobile speech pathologist sees what they can really do rather than how they behave in an unfamiliar room.

An adult recovering their speech practises with the people they actually talk to every day.

A swallowing assessment means the most when someone is eating their own food, at their own table.

It comes down to a simple idea: skills are built in the place they will be used and are more likely to carry over into daily life. This concept is what speech pathologists call carryover, and practising in a familiar environment can support it in ways a clinic setting may not always allow.

JC Care Services accepts NDIS, WorkCover, and Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), Medicare, and Private Health Insurance (or out of pocket) patients for mobile speech therapy.

Who We Help

Our mobile speech therapy service supports people at every age and stage, each with care shaped to their needs.

We welcome NDIS participants, and work with self-managed and plan-managed plans for speech pathology.

Children

Mobile speech therapy for kids who are late to talk, hard to understand, stuttering, or working through a diagnosis. Early support can make a real difference, and it starts where your child feels safest.

For little ones, speech therapy for preschoolers at home lets your child learn through play in familiar surroundings, with you involved every step of the way. We can also visit daycare or kinder, where a lot of communication happens.

If you have a toddler you are worried about, speech therapy for a 2 year old at home is gentle, play-based, and designed around how very young children actually learn, which is through everyday moments, not flashcards at a desk.

You are not overreacting by looking into this, and it is not too early. Acting now gives your child a strong start.

Teenagers

Speech therapy at home for a teenager looks very different from working with a young child, and it should. Teenagers need to be treated with respect, not talked down to. Whether it is a stutter, a social communication challenge, ongoing language difficulties, or building confidence to speak up, we work with your teen in a way that feels private, practical, and age-appropriate, in the comfort of home rather than a clinic waiting room.

Adults

Speech therapy at home for adults helps with communication, voice, and swallowing difficulties that can arise from a range of conditions or simply persist from earlier in life. For busy adults, home visits remove the hassle of fitting a clinic around work. For those finding travel hard, we simply come to you. The goal is always the same: to help you communicate and live with confidence.

After a Stroke or Brain Injury

A stroke or brain injury can change communication overnight, and getting to a clinic in the early weeks is often exhausting or impossible. Speech therapy after a stroke at home brings expert help to you while you need it most.

Our at home speech therapy for stroke patients supports recovery of speech and language (including aphasia), clearer speech, and safe swallowing, all in familiar surroundings with your family close by. Recovery takes time, and progress is possible. We work at a pace that respects where you are, one step at a time.

Autism

Speech therapy at home for autism is about supporting communication in a way that honours who your child or family member is, not changing them. Depending on individual needs, our at-home speech therapy for autism can support spoken language, social communication, and alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) tools that give a voice to those who need another way to be heard.

Home is often the calmest, least overwhelming place for an autistic person to engage, which is exactly why bringing therapy to them so often works.

Developmental and Intellectual Disability

Speech therapy at home for children and adults with a developmental or intellectual disability is about building real communication and independence, at a pace that respects the person. We support people with intellectual disability, developmental delay, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and a range of genetic and neurodevelopmental conditions, working on understanding and using language, being understood by others, and taking part more fully in everyday life. Because we come to you, therapy fits into familiar routines and the moments that matter, and we work toward the goals in your plan rather than a fixed course of sessions. We keep families and support workers closely involved, so the progress made in a visit carries on between them.

Seniors and Aged Care

Speech therapy for seniors at home focuses on two things that matter enormously in later life: staying safely nourished, and staying connected through communication. For older adults with dementia, Parkinson’s, or stroke recovery, gentle and consistent therapy supports safer mealtimes and clearer conversation, with dignity at the centre of everything.

Our elderly home care speech therapy also supports families and carers, because caring for someone is demanding, and you deserve support too.

We also provide nursing home speech therapy, visiting residents in aged care facilities where communication and swallowing support is needed.

Veterans (DVA)

Speech therapy at home for veterans brings communication and swallowing support to your door, with no clinic to travel to. If you hold a Veteran Gold or White Card, DVA may fully fund your speech pathology, including home-visit travel, and we handle the claims for you. We support veterans with communication and swallowing changes that can follow a stroke, brain injury, or progressive condition, as well as voice and speech difficulties that affect everyday confidence. Care comes to you, in familiar surroundings, with the same qualified speech pathologist each visit.

What to Expect From Your Home Speech Therapy

Arranging a home visit speech therapist with JC Care is straightforward.

Before the visit. We take a few details about the situation, goals, and any diagnosis or recent event, so your speech pathologist arrives prepared.

The first appointment. Your therapist carries out a full assessment at home, watching how communication or swallowing works in real, everyday moments. You will talk through what you want to achieve and leave with a clear plan.

Your tailored programme. You receive a plan and practical strategies built around the person, their goals, and their daily environment, explained clearly so the family feels confident between visits.

Ongoing support. Follow-up home speech therapy sessions track progress, adjust the plan, and keep things moving toward the goal, whether that is a first sentence, a return to work, or a safe and enjoyable meal.

How to Practice Speech Therapy at Home

One of the most common questions we hear is how to do speech therapy at home between sessions. The honest answer is that the most powerful therapy is not a formal exercise at all. It is the everyday moments woven through your day.

A few things that genuinely help:

  • Talk through daily routines. Narrate what you are doing while cooking, dressing, or driving. It builds language naturally.
  • Follow the person’s lead. With children especially, join what they are already interested in rather than steering them to a task.
  • Give a little more time. Pause and wait after asking something, so the person has space to respond without pressure.
  • Read, sing, and play together. These are some of the richest communication opportunities there are.

That said, everyday practice works best alongside expert guidance. A mobile speech therapist does more than treat: we coach you, in your own home, on exactly what will help this person in this environment. That is the real value of speech therapy help at home. You are not left to work it out alone.

Cannot Make Your Home Visit? Try Speech Therapy by Video Call

A home visit is not always possible, and a missed session does not have to mean lost progress. If you are unwell, running short on time, travelling, or the weather or a change of plans gets in the way, a telehealth appointment lets you keep your session with the same speech pathologist, by secure video call instead.

TELEHEALTH also suits some people especially well: families in regional or remote areas, busy parents fitting therapy around work and school, older teens and adults comfortable on screen, and anyone continuing a programme who just needs a check-in or a progression. It is an easy way for a parent to join a child’s session too, even from another location.

You will need only a phone, tablet, or computer with a camera, and we send a simple secure link. Real assessment, a tailored plan, and expert guidance, wherever you are.

Some things are still better done in person, such as certain swallowing assessments or hands-on work, and we will always tell you honestly when a home visit is the better choice. The goal is simple: the right care, in the right way, without a gap in your progress.

Ways to Fund Your Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is more affordable than many people expect, because several pathways help cover the cost. Which one suits you depends on your situation, and if you are unsure, we will help you work it out.

NDIS.

If you or your child has a permanent and significant disability affecting communication or swallowing, the NDIS may fund speech pathology within your plan. Sessions can be delivered wherever suits, including home, school, or daycare. If you are self-managed or plan-managed, you are free to choose JC Care. For children under seven, the NDIS early childhood pathway can offer support even before a formal diagnosis.

Medicare.

With a chronic condition, your GP may set up a management plan that provides rebated sessions each year. Separately, an expanded pathway now offers more rebated sessions for children and young people under 25 with certain speech conditions. Your GP can advise which fits, and there is usually a small out-of-pocket cost.

Department of Veterans' Affairs.

If you hold a Veteran Gold or White Card, DVA may fully fund your speech pathology, with no gap to pay and home-visit travel covered. We accept DVA cards and handle the claims.

Aged care.

Speech pathology for communication and swallowing can often be funded through an aged care package or in residential care. We are happy to discuss this with you or your care coordinator.

Private health and private funding.

Many funds offer rebates through extras cover, and you are always welcome to pay privately to keep things simple.

Not sure what applies to you? That is completely normal. Get in touch and we will help you find the right pathway.

How much comes back depends on your fund, your level of cover, and how much of your annual limit you have already used, so it is worth a quick call to check. You pay us for the session and we give you a detailed receipt with everything your fund needs to process the claim.

Not necessarily. You do not need a referral or a card to book with us if you are paying privately. Plenty of people simply book and pay for their own sessions because it is the quickest way to get help.

We will give you clear pricing before you book, including any travel component for your area, so you know exactly what a visit costs and what a course of sessions is likely to come to. Just ask us for a quote and we will lay it out honestly.
