Mobile Occupational Therapist Services

A mobile occupational therapist comes to you in the place where support matters most.

At JC Care, our OTs visit clients where they’re needed: home, aged care, SIL or SDA, schools, and community centres. This means there is no clinic to travel to, no waiting room, and no need to move a loved one who is frail, recovering or finding it hard to get out.

Who We Help

We work with people who want to stay safe, capable and independent in their own homes, and with the family members and professionals who help arrange that support.

NDIS participants building independence.

If occupational therapy is in your NDIS plan, a mobile OT can help you get more out of it without the trip to a clinic. We come to your home, work toward the capacity-building goals in your plan, and put practical supports in place, whether that is equipment, a home modification, or new ways to manage daily tasks with more confidence. We work with self-managed, plan-managed and agency-managed participants, and we provide the assessments and reports your plan needs along the way.

NDIS participants in SIL or SDA.

For participants living in supported independent living or specialist disability accommodation, we visit you where you are. Our mobile OTs assess how the space and your daily routines actually work for you, recommend equipment and modifications that fit the setting, and coordinate with your support workers and providers so everyone is working toward the same goals. Familiar surroundings, the same OT each visit, and support shaped around how you really live.

Young participants and early intervention.

For children and young people with a disability, we bring occupational therapy into the home, school or community centre where they are most comfortable. Working in familiar surroundings, and often through activities that feel more like play than therapy, we support fine and gross motor skills, everyday independence, and the goals set out in the plan. We keep families closely involved, so the progress made in a session carries on between visits.

Families and Carers.

If you are worried about a parent’s falls risk, a partner’s recovery after surgery, or whether the home is still safe for someone you love, a mobile OT can come and see for themselves. We assess the real environment, make practical recommendations, and give you the reassurance of knowing an expert has looked at the whole picture.

Support Coordinators, Case Managers and Referrers.

We make referrals simple. We accept the major funding types, cover metropolitan Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, and provide the assessments and reports you need to move a plan forward.

Veterans (DVA).

We welcome DVA clients holding Gold or White cards and can provide home assessments, equipment and aids advice, and rehabilitation support funded through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

Workers compensation clients.

If you are recovering from a workplace injury, a mobile OT can help you get back to daily life and work without the trip to a clinic. We assess how you manage at home and, where relevant, the demands of your role, recommend equipment or modifications that support your recovery, and provide the assessments and reports your claim requires. We work with WorkCover and insurers, and coordinate with your case manager so everyone is moving toward the same return-to-work goals.

Private Health Insurance and private clients.

You do not have to wait for funding to be approved. If you have extras cover, many funds offer rebates for occupational therapy, and you are always welcome to pay privately to keep things simple. Booking directly means we can get to you sooner, assess your home, and put practical supports in place without the paperwork of a funded pathway. Get in touch and we will explain what to expect before your first visit.

People booking for themselves.

You do not need to go through anyone else. If you know you would benefit from an occupational therapist home visit, you can contact us directly and we will guide you through the options.

JC Care Services accepts NDIS, WorkCover, and Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), Medicare, and Private Health Insurance (or out of pocket) patients for mobile occupational therapy.

Why an occupational therapy home visit makes sense

An occupational therapist home visit is not just more convenient. For most of the people we help, it is genuinely the better way to work.

We assess the real environment. You cannot judge bathroom safety, kitchen access or falls risk from a clinic chair. Seeing the actual home, the real doorways, steps and daily routines, is what makes our recommendations accurate and useful.

We remove the travel barrier. Frailty, recovery, mobility limits, no driver in the household, or simply the stress of an outing can all make getting to a clinic hard. A home visit means the people who need help most are not left going without it.

Our recommendations fit first time. When we prescribe a grab rail, a ramp, a shower stool or a change to the bedroom, we have measured the space and watched the person move through it, so the solution suits the home from day one.

Families get peace of mind. Our mobile OTs often notice risks that those closest to a person have stopped seeing. A home visit confirms whether a loved one is safe where they live, and sets out clear steps if they are not.

What to expect from your occupational therapist home visit

Every visit is tailored to the person, but most follow a simple shape:

  1. We come to you. At a time that suits, our mobile occupational therapist arrives at the home. So there is no need for travel or waiting rooms.
  2. We understand the goals. We talk through what is happening, what is hard, and what the person (and family) want to be able to do.
  3. We assess in place. We look at how the person moves through their home and daily tasks, and identify risks and opportunities.
  4. We recommend and act. You receive clear, practical recommendations, which may include equipment, home modifications, therapy, or referrals, along with any reports your funding requires.

Funding and how we can help

We work across the major funding streams, so most people are covered:

  • NDIS — for participants with occupational therapy in their plans. We are happy to work with your support coordinator or plan manager.
  • DVA — for veterans with a Gold or White card.
  • Workers compensation — for clients recovering from a workplace injury and returning to daily life or work.
  • Commonwealth Home Support Programme (CHSP) — for older Australians receiving entry-level home support.
  • Medicare — we accept referrals made under a GP care plan (Chronic Conditions Management).
  • Private — you can book directly, without waiting for funding to be approved.

Not sure which applies to you or your client? Get in touch and we will help you work it out.

NDIS Mobile Allied Health

Telehealth occupational therapy

When an in-person visit is not needed or not practical, we also offer occupational therapy by telehealth. Video sessions can be a good fit for follow-up appointments, reviews, coaching and strategy sessions, and for staying connected between home visits. Telehealth is also useful for reaching clients in regional areas, or for families and carers who want to be part of a session from a different location.

Telehealth works best alongside our home visits rather than instead of them. Some things, like a falls risk or home safety assessment, need our OT to be in the space to get it right, so we will always recommend a home visit where that is the better option.

Frequently Asked Questions

A mobile OT, or mobile occupational therapist, provides the same expert assessment and support as a clinic-based OT, but in your own home. This includes falls prevention, home safety assessments, equipment prescription, home modification advice, and rehabilitation support.

You can contact us directly, or a support coordinator, case manager, GP or family member can arrange it on your behalf. We will confirm funding, find a suitable time, and come to you.

We work with NDIS, DVA, workers compensation, CHSP, Medicare care plan referrals, and private clients. If you are unsure, ask us and we will help.

We provide mobile occupational therapist home visits across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
