When I first met Shelley's family, they were overwhelmed by her gambling addiction, verbal aggression, lying, manipulation habits, and jealous tendencies. With multiple complex diagnoses, a history of poor relationships and social skills, incarceration, and resulting trauma, Shelley faced significant barriers to change. But Shelley has shown remarkable courage and openness, now actively seeking to alter these behaviours to pursue her goals. Together, we focus on her protective factors and existing strengths. As such she's thriving by identifying boredom as a trigger. Day-to-day she is eagerly trying new activities and connecting with positive social circles to replace past patterns with healthier choices, alongside other proactive strategies discussed with her wonderful support team. I am truly so proud of Shelley’s progress, and I adore working with her.

Cooper is a sweet, gentle, and friendly young boy whose kindness shines, even while he faces the challenges of autism and significant anxiety. As we’ve just begun his behaviour support journey, he is engaging in psychoeducation and assessment as the first steps in understanding his needs. Given how deeply anxiety impacts him, we’re using the Zones of Regulation curriculum to provide a strong foundation for emotional awareness. This approach is designed to help him gradually build skills, with the ultimate goal of fostering his confidence, social abilities and functionally equivalent replacement behaviours.

Aidan is a bright young child with autism and ADHD who, despite anxious thinking patterns, fixations, and difficulties with social cues, approaches each day with genuine enthusiasm and good intentions. He often talks about feeling anxious but is generally cheerful, hyperactive, and full of energy. Our sessions focus on building functionally equivalent replacement behaviours, helping him find healthy ways to gain control and clarity in his environment, as we’ve identified uncertainty as a key trigger for his dysregulation. With each session, he’s gaining tools to feel more secure and empowered in his world.

Ryan is an adolescent who initially presented with significant difficulties in both complex problem-solving and emotional regulation. These challenges impacted his functional communication in academic, social, and home environments. He often struggled to approach problem-solving tasks independently and experienced frustration, which led to emotional dysregulation, affecting his ability to complete academic tasks or interact positively with peers. He attended fortnightly one hour sessions via Telehealth and he has shown commendable progress in complex problem-solving and emotional regulation, with substantial improvements in self-advocacy and communication skills. Although he may continue to benefit from additional support, the gains made in therapy sessions have positively impacted his daily life. He has developed valuable skills to support his future growth and success.

Mark is a 65-year-old gentleman with a C4 incomplete spinal cord injury. He has shown remarkable resilience and determination sine starting exercise therapy. With focused exercises, he’s strengthened his upper body and maintained the ability to stand and walk short distances, which has been invaluable for his daily activities. His hard work has not only enhanced his physical capacity but also lifted his outlook and mood, making each session a testament to his unwavering spirit. His hilarious sense of humour makes every session a blast to attend as well, bringing smiles to everyone involved. He attended fortnightly one hour sessions via Telehealth and he has shown commendable progress in complex problem-solving and emotional regulation, with substantial improvements in self-advocacy and communication skills. Although he may continue to benefit from additional support, the gains made in therapy sessions have positively impacted his daily life. He has developed valuable skills to support his future growth and success.

Jessica has now been participating in speech therapy for over half a year. She was able to collaborate with our therapist to tailor her own functional goals: reading short stories independently and improving her conversational and social language abilities. She has moved up the hierarchies to not only improve her phonological awareness, but also applying new skills to confidently read short words. Looking back, Jessica has displayed huge gains in her eye-contact, confidence in asking questions, but also her capability to now to engage reciprocally in conversations with her communication partners. Each session, Jessica continuously displays her motivation to work towards her goals, ultimately proving the hard work she has put in, and the outcomes she has gained.

Joshua has now been participating in speech therapy for over half a year. Our therapist worked in collaboration with his close network and most familiar communication partners to identify areas of communication breakdown and identify functional goals for him. He has been working on his expressive and receptive language abilities, intertwining total communication principles to enhance his language profile. It also came to our therapist's attention that he has a great interest in trucks/recycling. He is seen here in one of his favourite activities, sorting household items into their appropriate bins. This is a functional skill for Joshua, building his knowledge and application to daily activities he enjoys at home and within his community.

The Support workers provide assistance with various tasks including meal preparation, house cleaning, physiotherapy exercises, attendance at appointments & entertainment shows. The practical assistance is very much appreciated by making Graham's care much easier to manage with no task seemingly to be too great."

Luca’s journey has been nothing short of inspiring. When he first began therapy, he faced significant challenges with emotional regulation, tantrum behaviors, and reluctance to share. Expressing his feelings was tough, and working with others often led to frustration. Through dedicated therapy sessions, structured strategies, and unwavering support, Luca gradually developed the tools to self-regulate, manage his emotions, and engage positively with others. His progress has been incredible—where once there were tears and struggles, there is now patience, teamwork, and resilience. Luca has transformed into a team player, eagerly collaborating with peers, demonstrating kindness, and embracing the joy of sharing. Not only has his emotional growth been remarkable, but his fine motor skills have also flourished—allowing him to participate in more hands-on activities with confidence. A beautiful reflection of this progress is the artwork above, which Luca and his therapist created together. This piece represents his journey, growth, and ability to express himself in new and meaningful ways. His journey is a testament to the power of perseverance, support, and the right strategies. Meet Aliai – a bright light in our JC Care family When Aliai first began her journey with us, she used only single words to communicate and found it difficult to engage with others. She often preferred to sit alone and would miss out on group activities due to communication challenges and behavioural outbursts. Today, after ongoing support through Occupational Therapy and Speech Therapy, Aliai is thriving. She now speaks in complex sentences, engages confidently in group time, and has formed beautiful friendships — even remembering all her friends’ names and speaking with them in age-appropriate conversations. She’s also reached a place of emotional regulation and school readiness, showing us all just how powerful consistency, compassion, and tailored support can be. We’re so proud of you, Aliai!

This often led to physical aggression, meltdowns, and defiance, making it difficult for her to participate in everyday activities. Through a gradual exposure program and the use of visual cues to support her understanding of her environment, Kate has made remarkable progress in a short time. Her confidence has grown, and she is now engaging in community programs with far less anxiety and far fewer behavioural incidents. Long car rides have also become more manageable and even enjoyable for her. Kate’s growth has been incredible to witness, and I’m so proud of the resilience and progress she continues to show every day.”
